Greetings of joy and peace to you all in the precious Name of Jesus.
Dear friends, among many titles given to Mary in the Litany, one among them is “ Morning Star.” It is aptly suitable title to our Blessed Mother. First of all let try to understand what is Morning Star. The Google gives the following connotation for the word Morning Star. A bright planet, especially venus, seen in the east immediately before the sunrise. This means, a star that comes immediately before the sunrise is called the Morning Star. The definition reveals us the fact that morning star is a Hope or a Sign of the assurance of sunrise. Jesus is the Sun, who shines on us and bring us all into his wonderful light. He brought us salvation by his passion, death and resurrection. And Mary came as a morning star before the birth of Jesus, giving us hope of eternal life.
Why Mary is called the Morning Star.
Victor Frankle in his famous book, Man’s Search for Meaning in Life, says, “ One who loses hope is the one inevitable to die first.” So one should always have hope. In the divine plan of God, Mary stands as a sign, hope and assurance of salvation. Mary stands as hope to all the mankind in the salvation history. Here are three reasons how Mary is the morning star( Hope) of our lives.
1. Mary gives us the Hope of Savior’s Birth
2. She gives us the Hope of Salvation
3. She gives us Hope in God’s Mercy
Mary gives us the Hope of Savior’s Birth
This is the reason why Mary is called the Morning Star. People of Israel were awaiting for the birth of the savior for many centuries. Many kings were eagerly waiting for the coming of the Messiah. Prophets had been prophesying the coming of the Lord’s rule. Most importantly the birth of Mary is also very important in the salvation history. Her birth gave hope to the whole world about the birth of the savior from her womb. To beget Jesus, she needs to be born first. Hence she becomes the morning star of the savior.
She gives us the Hope of Salvation
Mary’s Yes to the Angel’s message brings hope of salvation to all the mankind. Though the divine plan was started in the beginning in Lord’s mind, when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, it came into existence and is revealed at the annunciation ceremony to the Blessed Mother . Hence she is called the Morning Star.
She gives us Hope in God’s Mercy
Mary stands as a hope and assurance of God’s help and mercy on us. When one comes to her she always intercede for the mercy of God on her children. We all know St. Bernard. He was very pastrol and fruitful in his ministry, especially to the prisoners who were given the judgment of death sentence. He used to go to them and tried to change them and make them repent for their sins and helped them to make a good confession. At the end he made the prisoners pray, “ Remember us, O most gracious virgin Mary………” Once he went to a prisoner who was going to be hanged in two days. He spoke with him and tried to make him repent for his sins. But the person did not. Not even a tear fell from his eyes. The Bernard started the prayer, “Remember us O…….” surprisingly the prisoner started weeping for his sins while reciting the prayer. The person felt sorry for his sins because of the prayer and made a good confession and received the mercy of God and had a good death.
So dear friends when we come into the lap of our Blessed Mother, she truly helps us to feel sorry for our sins and grant us the favors we need from God. Let us all seek her intercession and receive blessings and favors that we are in need of from our savior. Amen.
